Activities in and around Eisenerz
Eisenerz is a historically grown town with an old town centre worth seeing, where you can still feel the flair of times gone by and be enchanted by the venerable old houses.
HomepageThe Leopoldsteinersee was voted the most beautiful lake in Styria by the Styrians. The emerald-green mountain lake lies at the foot of a steep rock face, and invites you to take walks, boat trips and offers a challenging via ferrata too.
HomepageHigh above Eisenerz the church rests as a silent guardian over our mining town. At the foot of the ore mountain, however, it becomes the stone gate of the former mines of this mountain. Every journey into the depths of the mountain was preceded by the miner's request for God's protection and assistance for the day's work.
HomepageLocated in the original town centre on Bergmannplatz, the Old Town Hall now tells the story of the changing relationship between the mountain and the town of Eisenerz over the centuries.
HomepageSituated in the historic rooms of the Kammerhof, a former hunting lodge of Emperor Franz Josef I, this museum impressively shows the development of postal and telegraph services from imperial times to the present day.
HomepageThe Erzbergbahn is one of the most beautiful mountain railway lines in Austria. Operated by the Erzbergbahn Association, it is a museum railway from Vordernberg over the Präbichl to Erzberg station. Unimagined views of the Styrian Erzberg as well as the mountains of the Eisenerz Alps and the Northern Limestone Alps arise during the ride on the rail bus.
HomepageRadwerk IV is the only fully equipped charcoal blast furnace in Austria. Radwerke were blast furnace plants in which a water wheel operated the fan for combustion air. In Vordernberg there were 14 Radwerke along the mountain creek, two of which can be visited as an industrial museum.
HomepageCopper was first mined in the area of the Radmer valley as early as the Bronze Age. Copper mining in the Hinterradmer included a total of about 60 tunnels, of which only a few are known and accessible today. In the Show Mine you can experience medieval copper mining at first hand and ride on Austria's smallest gallery railway.
HomepageMining and beer have been linked for centuries. After the hard work underground, the miners liked to stop for a refreshing beer. Take a look at the small private brewery in Eisenerz with its gleaming copper kettles and let the brewer show you how "Gruamhunt", a beer aged in an underground ore mine, is made.
HomepageLet yourself be carried away into the fascinating world of minerals and crystals around the Erzberg. Our unique mineral museum is located in the middle of the historic town centre, which you can easily reach via the old town path from the Erzberg Valley Station in 7 minutes.
